Vestibular

Vestibular rehabilitation is concerned with the assessment and treatment of dizziness and balance disorders associated with the inner ear.  It can be effective in reducing symptoms, associated falls and improving quality of life.  Conditions such as BPPV and reduced vestibular function due to labyrinthitis or vestibular neuronitis can be treated.

A healthy balance system uses information from the brain, inner ears, eyes and joints which enable people to see clearly when moving their head.  During the initial assessment a detailed history will be taken and various tests will be carried out assessing the different areas of the balance system to identify problems.  A treatment plan can then be discussed.

A review from an ENT or Neurology consultant is preferred prior to participating in vestibular rehabilitation.  If you have a diagnosis of BPPV from your GP then this can be seen without a consultant review.
